Mary Brewster is one of the “lucky ones” who was exposed to and inspired by the world of art at a young age. In addition to fine art, there was an early appreciation established in the ballet studio, where she learned that discipline and hard work could also be fun. She landed there because her father wanted to ensure she would maintain good posture as she matured. Despite the fact that a professional career was not on her radar, Mary continued to hold ballet dear.
College years included studying in Vienna and Florence, working toward a BA in art and later earning a Masters degree in Art Education. After teaching for a few years, a career as an Art Director followed.
Returning to ballet as an adult rekindled her love of the art and the cerebral stimulation. Mary immersed herself in the whole experience, taking and teaching adult ballet. With that, choosing the most comfortable and attractive dancewear. Eventually an idea developed.
Starting her own company designing and manufacturing a collection of dancewear seemed to make sense. In the spirit of sustainability and American manufacturing, Mary moved forward with developing American Flora.
Paying close attention to detail, Mary designed a unique packaging element for online purchases. The American Flora brass tag can be reused in a myriad of ways. It is a reminder to customers that the core values of the founder extend to every aspect of the company she has created.
